Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are a form of scarring on the skin caused by tearing of the dermis. They can diminish over time but do not disappear completely. Stretch marks are caused by rapid stretching of the skin which exceeds its usual elasticity. These usually form during phases of rapid growth like in puberty, rapid weight gain, pregnancy etc. However, stretch marks may also occur if a person has been using steroid based skin creams or ointments. The increased cortisone levels causes stretch marks as it prevents the skin cells from producing collagen and elastin, both of which are essential to maintain healthy skin. Stretch marks present in various shades depending on their stage of evolution. They can be red initially and with time gradually become brown, white or take up a neutral color. Stretch marks generally appear anywhere on the body, particularly in areas with excess fat deposition like abdomen, breasts, upper arms, thighs, hips and buttocks.

There are an array of skin creams and products claiming to reduce or eliminate stretch marks but are mostly ineffective in doing so. The treatments for removing or normalizing stretch marks include regular and gentle peelings, micro-needling RF, fractional lasers, microdermabrasion etc. These processes induce collagen production and help in improving the elasticity of dermis layer. At ARSHI Clinic, we offer combination of various technologies to reduce the marks and bring a visible improvement to your skin.
